* I am currently accepting new doctoral students to work with. If you're interested in researching popular cultural media through the lens of information science, please contact me via email.
I grew up in South Korea, where I completed a bachelor’s degree in English Literature, Library and Information Science, and Art History, followed by a master’s degree in Library and Information Science at Ewha Womans University. I then moved to Seattle to pursue a doctorate at the University of Washington’s Information School.
With a strong foundation in library and information science, I’ve had the opportunity to engage deeply with the arts and communication—an experience that has inspired me to pursue interdisciplinary research that bridges these fields.
As an amateur artist with a passion for media and the arts, I’ve naturally developed a strong interest in exploring these areas through my research.
My primary research goal is to enhance the information experiences of multimedia information users. To achieve this, I conduct user studies informed by human information behavior and media studies. I focus particularly on multimedia materials such as video games, anime, and webtoons, and work on developing and improving organizational schemas, as well as reference and recommendation services tailored to these materials.
Taking a pragmatic approach, I use a variety of research methods, including content analysis, large-scale surveys, diary studies, interviews, text analysis, facet analysis, and more.
