* I am currently accepting new doctoral students to work with. If you're interested in researching popular cultural media through the lens of information science, please contact me via email.
I grew up in South Korea, where I completed my bachelor's degree in English Literature, Library and Information Science, and Art History, followed by a master's degree in Library and Information Science at Ewha Womans University. I then moved to Seattle to pursue a doctorate at the University of Washington’s Information School.
With a strong foundation in library and information science, I have had the opportunity to engage deeply with the arts and communication, which has inspired me to pursue interdisciplinary research that bridges these fields.
As an amateur artist with a passion for media and the arts, I have naturally developed a strong interest in exploring these areas through my research.
My primary research objective is to enhance access to multimedia information for users. This involves conducting user studies based on human information behavior theories, as well as media theories. Additionally, I focus on developing effective organizational schemas and improving current reference and recommendation services.
Adopting a pragmatic approach, I employ a variety of methods in my research, including content analysis, large-scale surveys, diary studies, interviews, text analysis, facet analysis, and more.
